Buzz around Ayari Ani…

Lionesses of Africa has over one million users in 54 African countries, as well as tens of thousands of users in Europe and North America. The platform, which aims to bring about large-scale change so that Africa's female entrepreneurs can realise their entrepreneurial dreams, Christine Wanjiru, our founder, was interviewed by LoA, and this is what she had to say.

What motivated you to start your business?

The lack of diverse Kenyan organic brands in an affordable price range frustrated me. The few existing brands rarely pay attention to who and why certain formulas work. I quickly realised that I wasn't the only one who thought the market needed more than a handful of brands with formulas that can be found easily in blogs and tutorials. You may feel duped and hopeless at some point. I decided enough was enough and conducted extensive research in the fields of aesthetics and cosmetology.

Why should someone use your product or service?

Our products are designed with the consumer in mind, as we communicate with them directly and, more frequently than most, develop customised skin-care regimens.

"It is always inspirational to see young women embarking on their entrepreneurial journeys, driven by passion and a strong desire to improve the way things are done or the products and services that are currently in the marketplace. Christine Wanjiru and her team at Ayari Ani Cosmetics are pulling together their collective knowledge, expertise and considerable energy and enthusiasm to create a business and brand that can go the distance.”

-Melanie Hawken, founder and CEO of Lionesses of Africa

"Two young entrepreneurs are hoping to disrupt the African skin care market with the launch of their respective organic brands."

-Audrey Latimer, columnist at Global Cosmetic Industry

“These are two entrepreneurs to watch in Africa’s organic skin care space.”

-Hadassah Egbedi, author at Ventures Africa

The Founder

I want to change people's minds about cosmetics being a "woman's market." I want the brand to stay true to its mission of resolving skin care issues and delivering even better results, while also emphasising the importance of self-care as part of a balanced lifestyle that everyone, regardless of social or economic status, should work on.
